How to care for your hair extensions at home

· 1 min read

Honey brown hair extensions styled in soft waves

Simple daily habits that keep extensions soft, tangle-free and looking fresh for longer, from brushing to sleeping and washing.

Extensions are an investment in your hair, and how you look after them between appointments makes a big difference to how long they last and how natural they look. The good news is that a few small habits go a long way.

Brush gently, and often

Use a soft-bristle or loop brush made for extensions. Hold your hair at the root with one hand and brush from the ends upwards, so you never pull on the bonds, tapes or beads. Aim for two or three gentle brushes a day to stop knots building up.

Wash with care

  • Choose a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner.
  • Wash with your head upright, in the shower, rather than tipping it forward over a sink.
  • Keep conditioner and oils away from the attachment points.
  • Pat dry with a towel. Never rub or twist.

Never sleep on wet hair

Wet hair tangles easily and puts extra strain on the attachments. Dry your hair fully, roots first, before bed. Then tie it in a loose plait or low ponytail. A silk pillowcase helps reduce friction overnight too.

Keep up with maintenance

As your natural hair grows, extensions move down with it. Regular maintenance appointments keep everything sitting comfortably and blended. If you're unsure when you're due, send us a message and we'll advise.
